A fairly well-worn series of dirt trails pass through the woods from Fox Mill Road to West Ox Road. There are lots of side trails, so it helps to have a fairly good sense of direction to get from one side to the other.

Approximate Distance: 1 to 2 miles
Surface: All dirt trails

Location of trailheads

On the east side (i.e., Fox Mill Road), you find a marked public park access to these trails from Westwood Hills Drive. Fox Mill District Park offers another good place to start this run. Park at the soccer fields, head into the woods, and cross Fox Mill Road to find Westwood Hills Drive. Find the park entrance to the right. You might also find the obscure trail entrance directly from Fox Mill Road.

I have seen white, orange, and red trail blazes on the trees at various points, but have not been able to make sense of them. Following orange markers at one point led me to what seemed a "dead end".

I'm not aware of any marked entrances to the park from the west side, but trails lead you into the residential community. Just keep heading east to west and eventually find West Ox Road, near the intersection with either Folkstone Road (N) or Franklin Farm Road (S).

From Fox Mill District Park, a trail also lead in the opposite direction, heading northeast towards Reston, to connect with the trails maintained by the Reston HOA. Friend and fellow runner Joyce Adams wrote about this portion of the trail in an article for the Washington Running Report:

Foxmill District Park

Both of these sections of trail have been included in a series of trails proposed as the West Fairfax Trail:
